Farber Hebrew Day School/Yeshivat Akiva is celebrating its 60th year as the Detroit area’s Modern Orthodox day school. The Farber Fire is led by seniors Ari Schon, Matt Shamayev, Micah Adler and Eli Schwartz. Returning four starters from last year’s 11-6 team, the Fire counts heavily on the seniors and junior starters Gideon Lopatin and Jonas Singer. Farber welcomes new head coach Gary Capaldi to the helm along with Joe Peters as assistant coach. The season got off to a resounding start with a blowout victory in the first game, and Farber hopes to build on the success of last year’s team to compete with a higher caliber of school this year and to bring home the trophy from the Maimonides Tournament and Farber’s own Tanzman Tournament later in January. Farber is also accompanied by Head of School and Maimonides alum, Dr. Josh Levisohn. Farber represents the great state of Michigan, with its thriving Jewish community, abundance of lakes, crisp weather, and NFC-midwest leading Lions. We are also looking forward to getting off the tarmac this time, unlike when we were stranded in DC and unable to make it to the rally for Israel!
