Over the weekend of December 13-16, 2018, Maimonides School, in Brookline, Massachusetts, will welcome boys and girls student-athletes and coaches representing other Jewish day schools from around the United States for a varsity basketball tournament. Please click the Schedule link for a complete game schedule.
The Maimonides School Invitational Basketball Tournament is about much more than basketball. It is an opportunity for students, teachers, families and alumni to coalesce in spirit behind our students. It is a warm, memorable Shabbat experience for participants and the school community. And it is a model for all on blending intense play on the court with examples of middot including sportsmanship, humility and respect.
It is a fitting tribute to have this tournament named after Leland, a Maimonides School alum (Class of 1982), as Maimonides and team sports meant so much to him. We are very appreciative of the Gelman Family's support in honoring Leland's memory this way.

tournament co-chairs' letter
Welcome to this year’s Maimonides School Invitational Basketball Tournament in Memory of Leland Gelman. We hope you’ll have an experience that will be fondly remembered, and that you’ll be enriched by this year’s religious, athletic and cultural programs.
We are extremely grateful to the Gelman family for sponsoring this event, which brings day schools together representing wonderful communities from across the United States.
Much appreciation is due to the Maimonides Community who has opened its homes with gracious hospitality to our participants. We are thankful to the School’s administration, faculty, students, and parents who have been greatly supportive and whose combined efforts have culminated in making this tournament a reality. In particular, thank you to Scott Mattoon and Rabbi Huff for their guidance and to Maimonides’ devoted athletic director Hal Borkow, who works tirelessly, for all of the School’s sports programs. Yasher koach to Mike Rosenberg for his wise advice and assistance. Boys Varsity Basketball Head Coach Rabbi Ed Gelb and Assistant Coach, Avi Klausner, along with the Girls Varsity Head Coach Garvey Salomon and his assistant Kyla Gabriel continue to share their expertise, capably guiding our players throughout the season.
Many thanks to our outstanding tournament committee and volunteers, whose myriad of talents help make this a wonderful event for all those participating!
With warmest regards,
Ahron '76 and Sheera ' 76 Solomont
